Do not be afraid

This verse reminds us of the announcement of Jesus’ birth, a moment filled with glory and hope. The shepherds, who were considered humble and ordinary people, were the first to receive this wonderful news. This teaches us that God does not limit Himself to the powerful, but that His message of salvation is for everyone, regardless of their status, past, or circumstances. Jesus Himself demonstrated this during His ministry by reaching out to the marginalized, sinners, and the forgotten. He said, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10↗, NKJV). The angel’s message is a reminder that the “good tidings of great joy” are not exclusive but universal, intended to transform the hearts of all who receive them. Additionally, the angel says, “Do not be afraid.” These words echo throughout Jesus’ ministry. He constantly invites us to let go of fear and trust in God’s love and provision. In John 14:27↗ (NKJV), Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Just as the shepherds overcame their fear in the presence of the angel, we too can live in confidence and joy by embracing Christ’s promises.

The central message of this verse is the joy that comes from the Gospel. This joy does not depend on external circumstances but on the certainty that Jesus is the Savior who came to reconcile us to God. As Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11↗, NKJV).

Today, we can remember this moment in history as an invitation to share the good news with others, reflecting the love and joy that come from walking in the light of Christ. May our lives be a testimony of the peace, hope, and joy that only He can bring.
