The Harvest is Plentiful

“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’” (Matthew 9:37–38, NIV)

These words of Jesus reveal His deep compassion for humanity. As He looked upon the crowds—confused, weary, and lost—He compared them to a harvest ready to be gathered, but lacking workers. Jesus not only points to the need. He calls us to pray and to respond.

In His life, Jesus was the faithful laborer of the Kingdom. He preached the Good News, healed the sick, set the oppressed free, and taught with authority. And now, He invites us to join Him in that mission, to see the world through His eyes and act with His love.

The mission isn’t just for pastors or leaders: every believer is called to be a worker in the Lord’s field, whether by preaching, serving, encouraging, or simply living out the Gospel daily. Are you seeing the spiritual harvest around you? Are you praying for workers and willing to be one?

Today’s prayer

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for giving me Your beloved only Son, Jesus, for my salvation. Give me discernment to see the need in Your field and a willing heart to serve as a faithful worker. I lift this prayer with thanksgiving, and I ask for Your help to fulfill Your calling.

In the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.
