On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus left His disciples with this central command that sums up the essence of Christian life: love. This is not a conditional or superficial love, but a sacrificial one — the same love with which Christ loved us when He gave His life for us (John 15:13).
This command is not optional, but the distinctive mark of God’s children. The world will recognize that we are disciples of Jesus when we reflect His love in our actions (John 13:35). To love as Christ loves means to forgive, to serve, to show patience, and to seek the good of others above ourselves (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).
By obeying this command, we not only imitate Christ but also demonstrate that we have been transformed by His grace. Love is the living evidence of genuine faith, because whoever remains in Christ also remains in love (1 John 4:16).
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for loving me with a perfect and eternal love. Teach me to love others as Christ has loved me — with patience, mercy, and sacrifice. Let my life reflect Your love at all times so that others may come to know You through my actions. Abba Father, I lift this prayer in the Name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
