These words were written by the apostle Paul from prison. Yet his message is not discouragement, but joy. How could someone speak of rejoicing from a cell? Because his joy did not depend on circumstances—it flowed from Christ. True joy is born from a deep relationship with the Lord, not from external conditions (Nehemiah 8:10).
To rejoice “always” does not mean ignoring pain; it means recognizing that the Lord is present in every moment. It is remembering that He is sovereign, that His love never changes, and that His grace sustains us even in trials. Joy in the Lord becomes an anchor for the heart, a strength that defeats anxiety, and a light in dark seasons (Psalm 16:11).
When Paul repeats, “Again I say, Rejoice,” he emphasizes that joy in Christ is a spiritual decision. It is choosing to trust, rest, and worship—even when emotions do not align. The joy of the Lord is not shallow; it is deep, steady, and eternal. In Him, we find peace for the mind and strength to persevere (John 15:11).

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You because in You I find a joy that nothing and no one can take away. Teach me to rejoice always in Your presence, even when circumstances are difficult. Fill my heart with Your peace and renew my spirit with Your eternal joy. I pray in the Name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
