Building on the rock
At the close of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus compares those who hear His words and obey them to a wise builder. A firm foundation takes shape as we put His teaching into practice through our daily decisions.
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24 English rendering based on NVI
At the close of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus compares those who hear His words and obey them to a wise builder. A firm foundation takes shape as we put His teaching into practice through our daily decisions.
Building on the rock does not prevent storms from coming. It prepares us to face them with our lives grounded in Jesus and His truth. Through Him, we can approach our Father, ask for strength, and learn to obey with faith and perseverance.
Pause and reflect
Choose one teaching of Jesus that you need to apply today: forgive, speak truthfully, serve someone, or seek peace. Take a concrete step of obedience. Ask God, in the name of His Son Jesus, to remove from your heart everything that does not come from the fruit of the Holy Spirit, renew your strength, and fill you with His Holy Spirit.
Today’s prayer
Abba Father, help me build my life on the words of Your Son Jesus. You are God. Thank You for choosing me and rescuing me through Him. Teach me to listen with humility and put His teaching into practice. Remove from my heart everything that does not come from the fruit of Your Holy Spirit. Renew my strength and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Guide my decisions and sustain me through difficulties, so that I may remain faithful to You. I ask this in the name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
