“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14, NIV)

These words were spoken by Jesus the night before His crucifixion. Though He is the Son of God, He laid aside His outer garment, took a towel, and washed His disciples’ feet. An unthinkable act for a teacher—but an essential one to show what it means to love and serve.

Jesus didn’t just give a lesson—He gave the supreme example of humility and surrender. Though He was the Master, He chose the position of a servant. And then He called us to do the same: to serve one another with compassion, without pride or need for recognition.

Washing each other’s feet is not only a physical act; it’s a call to forgive, lift, comfort, and walk together in humility.:

Who can you serve today with humility? Is there someone you need to approach with the heart of Christ?

Today’s prayer

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for giving me Your beloved only Son, Jesus, for my salvation. Thank You that in Him I learned that the greatest is the one who serves. Help me to follow His example and to wash others’ feet with humility and genuine love. I lift this prayer with thanksgiving. In the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.
