A Love That Discerns and Sanctifies
In this heartfelt prayer, Paul longs for believers to grow in a love that is informed and wise, not driven merely by emotion, but guided by truth and discernment.
“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.” (Philippians 1:9–10, NKJV)
In this heartfelt prayer, Paul longs for believers to grow in a love that is informed and wise, not driven merely by emotion, but guided by truth and discernment.
True Christian love is not naïve; it must be shaped by Scripture and the Spirit (Colossians 1:9–10), so we may discern what truly matters and walk in what is excellent—what pleases God.
Such a love prepares us for the day of Christ, helping us live sincerely and blamelessly—not because we are perfect in ourselves, but because Christ has cleansed us and is perfecting His work in us (Ephesians 5:26–27). Are you letting your love grow in truth and understanding? Are you living sincerely, longing to honor Christ at His coming?
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for giving me Your beloved Son, Jesus, for my salvation. I ask that You cause my love to grow, not just in feeling, but in truth and wisdom, so I may live sincerely and purely before You. I lift this prayer with thanksgiving and humbly ask for Your help.
In the name of our Lord Jesus I give You thanks. Amen.
