These words from Jesus are not a light invitation, but a radical call to discipleship. It’s not merely about following Him outwardly, but an inward transformation that begins by denying ourselves—laying down our own desires, plans, and pride to submit to God’s will.
Taking up the cross is not just enduring hardship; it’s a daily willingness to die to self, as Jesus died for us. It means crucifying the flesh and following Christ in faith and obedience (Galatians 2:20).
To follow Jesus is to walk in His footsteps, imitate His character, and embrace His mission. It’s not the easiest path, but it is the only one that leads to eternal life. He never asks us to do what He hasn’t already done—He carried His cross, denied Himself, and saved us in love.
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me to follow You. Help me to deny myself, take up my cross, and walk daily in Your ways. Strengthen my faith and obedience, and fill me with Your Spirit to live according to Your example. Abba Father, we offer this prayer in the Name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
