Matthew 6:33 (NIV) “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Jesus reminds us in this verse that the priority of our lives should not be material concerns or anxious pursuit of the temporary, but living under God’s rule. To seek first the Kingdom means to surrender our hearts and decisions to Christ, acknowledging Him as the true King and Lord.
When we put God first, our priorities align with His righteousness. This does not mean we ignore our needs, but that we trust our Heavenly Father to provide. Jesus Himself explained in the Sermon on the Mount that God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies, and how much more will He care for His beloved children (Matthew 6:26-30).
By centering our lives in Christ and the righteousness He has given us by grace (2 Corinthians 5:21), we find peace, purpose, and confidence. Everything else—provision, strength, and guidance—will be added by a Father who knows our needs before we even ask.
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Abba Father, thank You because in Christ You have given me access to Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. Teach me to always put Your will first in my life and to trust fully in Your care. Help me not to live in anxiety, but to rest in Your promises, knowing that You provide all I need. I lift this prayer in the name of Your beloved Son Jesus, Amen.
