Verse of the Day: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 NIV
Jesus teaches that generosity is not a transaction but an expression of a heart transformed by God. Giving is not limited to material things; it includes love, service, forgiveness, time, compassion, and grace. When we give from a sincere and obedient heart, God responds with abundance because His nature is to reward what aligns with His character (Proverbs 11:25).
A “good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over” paints a vivid picture of divine abundance. In ancient times, grain was measured by filling the container, pressing it down, shaking it to make room for more, and then letting it overflow. That is how God gives—beyond what we deserve and beyond what we expect. His provision is generous, precise, and perfect (2 Corinthians 9:6–8).
Generosity is also a spiritual sowing. What we give returns to us, not always in the same form, but in grace, peace, joy, provision, favor, and strength. When we measure with grace, we receive grace; when we measure with mercy, we receive mercy. The measure we use with others reveals whether we understand the Father’s heart (Matthew 5:7).
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and perfect generosity. Shape in me a heart that gives with joy, love, and obedience. Teach me to sow with faith, trusting that You are my provider. May my life reflect Your grace in everything I give and everything I do. I pray in the Name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
