Verse of the Day: “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18 KJV

This verse reveals a beautiful aspect of God’s character: He draws near precisely when we need Him most. The Lord does not avoid human pain, nor does He remain distant when the heart is wounded. Quite the opposite: God draws near, sustains, comforts, and brings salvation to those who are broken and acknowledge their need for Him (Psalm 147:3).

The “brokenhearted” describes those who are hurting, weary, burdened, or crushed by loss or trial. To them, God promises nearness. And the “contrite in spirit” are those who humbly recognize their weakness and seek refuge in the Lord. This posture opens the door to His healing presence, for God gives grace to the humble and lifts the one who has fallen (Isaiah 57:15).

God’s nearness is not merely emotional; it is real, powerful, and transformative. He saves: He rescues from discouragement, frees from fear, strengthens the heart, and fills with peace. This promise finds its fullness in Christ, who carried our sorrows and our wounds, and who promised to be with us always. When the heart is broken, He is even closer (Matthew 28:20).

Today’s prayer

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You because You are near to the brokenhearted. Thank You because Your presence sustains me and Your love heals me. Today I lay before You my burdens and my fragility. Save me, strengthen me, and renew my spirit. I pray in the Name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
