Every Opportunity to Do Good
The apostle Paul wrote these words after teaching that we reap what we sow and encouraging believers not to become tired of doing good. He understood that helping others can become difficult when we do not see immediate results, receive gratitude, or feel that our efforts are making a difference.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10, NIV
The apostle Paul wrote these words after teaching that we reap what we sow and encouraging believers not to become tired of doing good. He understood that helping others can become difficult when we do not see immediate results, receive gratitude, or feel that our efforts are making a difference.
Nevertheless, every opportunity to do good is a seed we can place in God’s hands. A compassionate word, a meal, a visit, practical help, or a sincere prayer may seem small to us, but God can use it to encourage, sustain, and restore another person.
Paul says that we should do good to everyone. Christian love is not limited to people who think like us, treat us well, or can repay us. He also calls us to give special attention to the family of faith. This is not an excuse to exclude others; it is a reminder that believers have a particular responsibility to care for, strengthen, and support one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.
We do not perform good works to earn salvation or human recognition. We do them because God has shown us His grace through Jesus and His Holy Spirit produces love and goodness in us.
Pause and reflect
Think of one person within the family of faith who may need encouragement, prayer, company, or practical assistance. Contact that person and offer specific help today. Also look beyond your immediate circle. Pay attention to someone God places in your path and respond to their need with kindness, without expecting recognition or repayment. Ask God, in the name of His Son Jesus, to remove from your heart everything that does not come from the fruit of the Holy Spirit, to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and to make you attentive and willing whenever an opportunity to do good appears.
Today’s prayer
Abba Father, thank You for the goodness and mercy You have shown me through Jesus. Open my eyes so that I can recognize the needs of the people You place in my path. Do not let me grow tired of doing good when I do not see immediate results or receive gratitude. Give me a generous, compassionate, and humble heart that serves without seeking recognition. Remove from my heart everything that does not come from the fruit of the Holy Spirit and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me care for my brothers and sisters in the faith and extend Your love to everyone. I ask this in the name of Your beloved Son Jesus. Amen.
