Verse of the Day (KJV): “I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” (Luke 18:14)
Here, Jesus teaches a profound truth: justification before God is not earned through appearances, words, or works, but through a truly humble heart. The Pharisee exalted himself, trusting in his own righteousness, while the tax collector humbled himself and sought mercy.
This passage not only challenges religious pride, but also every form of human pride—that which makes us feel self-sufficient, superior, or deserving of God’s favor. True faith begins when we recognize our complete dependence on God’s grace.
Jesus, our perfect example, though God, humbled Himself and gave His life for us (Philippians 2:5–8). Those who follow Him must walk in humility, knowing that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5).
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for showing me that justification is not from myself, but from You. Deliver me from pride, self-reliance, and the desire to exalt myself. Teach me to depend on Your grace and to walk with a humble heart like Christ.
