He Will Sustain You
King David wrote this psalm while experiencing fear, conflict, and the deep pain of betrayal by someone he considered a close friend. He did not hide his anguish or pretend that the situation did not hurt. He brought his distress honestly before God and chose to trust Him in the middle of circumstances he could not control.
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22, NIV
King David wrote this psalm while experiencing fear, conflict, and the deep pain of betrayal by someone he considered a close friend. Giving our cares to God does not mean denying our problems or avoiding our responsibilities. It means refusing to carry alone a weight that exceeds our strength. God’s promise does not tell us that we will never experience pain or instability; it assures us that He will sustain us and will not allow suffering to have the final word over those who trust Him.
Pause and reflect
Write down three concerns that are weighing heavily on your heart. Present each one to God in prayer, separating what you can responsibly do from what only He can resolve. Take one faithful step concerning what is within your reach, and surrender the rest to Him. Ask God, in the name of His Son Jesus, to renew your strength, sustain you through uncertainty, and fill you with His Holy Spirit.
Today’s prayer
Abba Father, today I place before You every burden, fear, and situation that exceeds my strength. Help me fulfill my responsibilities without trying to control what belongs only to You. Sustain me when I feel weak, give me peace in uncertainty, and remind me that I am not walking alone. Renew my strength and fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may remain firm in faith. I ask this in the name of Your beloved Son, Jesus. Amen.
