God Makes It Grow

“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:7, NIV)

In this letter, the apostle Paul addresses division in the church of Corinth. Some boasted of following Paul, others Apollos. But Paul makes it clear that no servant of God is the focus—spiritual growth, transformation, and fruit come only from God.

Planting and watering are important roles, but the miracle of growth belongs to the Lord. He gives life to the seed, brings beauty from barrenness, transforms hearts, and produces fruit in His perfect timing.

This verse reminds all of us—leaders, teachers, parents, friends, sowers of the faith—that our job is to be faithful, not to seek glory. The work is the Lord’s. And in His sovereignty, He honors even the smallest seed planted with faith, even when we don’t see immediate results.

Are you relying on your own efforts to see results, or are you trusting in God, who makes things grow in His way and in His time?

Today’s prayer

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for giving me Your beloved only Son, Jesus, for my salvation. Give me discernment to be a faithful sower, not seeking recognition, knowing that only You make things grow. I lift this prayer with thanksgiving and ask for Your help to serve You humbly, trusting in Your perfect work.

In the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.
