You Did It Unto Me
These words from Jesus reveal a powerful truth: He personally identifies with the lowly and the needy. Whatever we do with love, compassion, and humility for “the least” of His brothers and sisters, He receives it as done directly to Him.
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:40, NIV)
These words from Jesus reveal a powerful truth: He personally identifies with the lowly and the needy. Whatever we do with love, compassion, and humility for “the least” of His brothers and sisters, He receives it as done directly to Him.
This kind of service doesn’t come from a heart trying to earn salvation, but from a heart already justified by faith (Romans 5:1), transformed by God’s love, and now living to glorify Him. It’s not about merit, but about the fruit of a living faith, as Ephesians 2:8–10 teaches—we are saved by grace through faith, to do the good works God prepared in advance.
Jesus not only sees our actions He sees the heart. When we serve others in His name, we are worshiping Him through our deeds.
Are you serving others as though you were serving Christ Himself? Do you see in the needy an opportunity to honor the King?
Today’s prayer
Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for giving me Your beloved only Son, Jesus, for my salvation. Thank You for saving me by grace, and now allowing me to serve You by serving others. Teach me to see Christ in each person in need, and to act with compassion as a response to Your love. I lift this prayer with thanksgiving.
